The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy, a private organization (CMIE), estimates India's unemployment rate in India is around 8.3% at present. It is 10.09% in urban India whereas only 7.44% in rural India.

In 2022, in India, the state of Maharashtra had the highest employability, that is, the most number of graduates eligible to be employed, at just over 66 percent. This was followed by the states of Uttar Pradesh and Kerala at around 65 percent and around 64 percent.

Haryana is the top region by unemployment rate in India. As of last month, the unemployment rate in Haryana was 37.38 %. The top 5 regions also include Rajasthan, NCT of Delhi, Bihar, and Jharkhand.Haryana has the highest unemployment rate, whereas, Odisha has the lowest unemployment rate in India.

Railway has highest vacancies at 2.94 lakh followed by defense at 2.64 lakh & home affairs 1.43 lakh.

The National Recruitment Agency has been constituted for detailed study of recruitment systems at center & states to adopt best practices.
